As the Control Systems Supervisor, you will provide supervision, coaching and mentoring for staff engaged in maintaining and developing real-time industrial process control systems and related hardware/software within the Water Treatment Control Systems team. Primary duties include:
- Deliver service and maintenance of critical real-time process control systems, related field control devices, process communication networks, data historian and reporting systems in the City of Calgary Water Treatment plants, water pumping stations, underground water storage reservoirs, and regional water monitoring systems.
- Develop and manage capital and operating budgets.
- Perform control systems planning for process growth, upgrade expansion and integration of existing system architectures as well as managing control system upgrade projects.
- Develop and maintain reliable and secure Operational Technology (OT) networks.
- Ensure that all DCS/SCADA/PLC/RTU system hardware and software as well as the related process measurement and control equipment are maintained within their asset life.
- Collaborate and build strong working relationships with a diverse group of interested parties including Operations, Maintenance, Planning and Project Delivery.
- Ensure safety and environmental policies and standards are monitored and enforced to provide safe working conditions for staff.
- Coordinate and supervise all aspects of staffing, including hiring, training and competency development, promotions, and other related supervisory responsibilities.
- A Journeyperson Instrumentation Technician with Interprovincial Red Seal certification and at least 8 years of relevant experience; OR
- A completed 2-year technical diploma related to control systems and at least 5 years of relevant experience; OR
- A degree related to control systems and at least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience must include the service, installation, and implementation of industrial control systems and the ability to troubleshoot complex problems.
- Experience in real-time process control systems, hardware, software and process control networking systems is required.
- Related work experience in water/wastewater treatment processes will be considered an asset.
- Experience in Industrial Control System cybersecurity, computer networking, network equipment, and network security appliances will be considered an asset.
- Training in health and safety, leadership, contractor management and environmental management systems will be considered assets.
- Success in this position requires strong communication with the ability to acquire new knowledge, skills and technologies and work collaboratively and independently within a team.
