Now Hiring: Solid Waste Worker (Competition #26-34) 

Parkland County has opportunities for permanent full-time and temporary, full-time Solid Waste Worker positions in the Public Works Services Department.  The temporary full-time positions would commence in April 2026 and work until approximately the end of September 2026. Reporting to the General Supervisor, Solid Waste Services, the Solid Waste Worker is responsible for the operation and maintenance of solid waste transfer stations and recycling centres including providing direction to solid waste facility users, monitoring solid waste identification cards, operating waste compactors, ensuring proper use of recycling and special waste areas, and general site maintenance of transfer station grounds.  This position requires the ability to effectively communicate and maintain an effective, tactful service-oriented relationship with the public. 

Requirements

The ideal candidate would have the following: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 

  • Alberta Certified Landfill and Composting Facility Operator Certification is considered an asset.  

  • Minimum one year experience in transfer station operation or solid waste handling.  

  • Experience operating equipment and hand/power tools.  

  • Must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain an effective, tactful service-oriented relationship with the public.  

  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License. A current Driver’s Abstract must be provided.   

Salary & Benefits

The total rewards package for this position includes: 

An hourly rate of pay of $29.66 per hour. The Transfer Station operates Tuesday through Saturday with open hours that vary from 8:00am to 8:00pm; therefore, the successful candidate will be expected to have open availability within this schedule.
