Organizational Profile

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is located on the beautiful central east coast of Vancouver Island, incorporating the municipalities of Nanaimo, Lantzville, Parksville, and Qualicum Beach, and seven unincorporated electoral areas that lie between Cassidy to the south and Bowser to the north. The RDN is situated within the traditional territories of several First Nations, including Snuneymuxw, Snaw-NawAs and Qualicum First Nations and recognizes their rich cultural heritage. The RDN is focused on building strong relationships with these Nations. The RDN is home to approximately 170,000 people and is growing at a rapid pace. Growth is due in part to a mild coastal climate, diverse ecosystems, and landscapes from the Salish Sea to rugged mountains, easy access to a range of outdoor recreation, and a high quality of life.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Senior Manager, Strategic Intergovernmental Services provides leadership in supporting the Regional District of Nanaimo’s (RDN) and the Nanaimo Regional Hospital District’s (NHRD) ongoing efforts to build and foster effective relationships with First Nations governments, other levels of government, and external partners and agencies to further organizational strategic objectives. The Senior Manager provides senior-level advice, information, and guidance to RDN and NRHD elected officials and staff on external agencies that impact RDN and NRHD priorities and services. This position leads a variety of intergovernmental projects and initiatives, directs corporate engagement and communications activities, and provides oversight on the RDN and NRHD strategic planning initiatives. The Senior Manager, Strategic Intergovernmental Services, serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and may attend meetings of the Management Leadership Group as needed.

This is an incredible opportunity for a detail-oriented intergovernmental services leader with strong relationship-building skills and political acumen to lead the Strategic Intergovernmental Services team and advance key initiatives at the RDN and NRHD. The preferred candidate will hold a graduate degree in social sciences, public administration, law, business administration, public policy, communications, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have senior leadership experience in the public sector, combined with intergovernmental relations experience, including relationship-building and reconciliation work with Indigenous Peoples. The successful candidate will have experience working with elected officials, boards, committees, and/or councils. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The salary for this position is $165,570 - $189,995 annually and is supplemented by a competitive total compensation plan. This salary is based on the 2025 exempt management salary structure and does not reflect any potential annual adjustment for 2026 if approved by the Board.
