About the Role
We are currently recruiting a distribution/collection operator trainee (NAIT or NWP practicum student) for our water distribution and wastewater collection department. This job is for physically active people who get a great deal of satisfaction from doing the job right every time. Highly motivated, independent workers will enjoy the opportunity to work with small crews to accomplish big things and to support Aquatera’s culture of continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Under mentorship may:
- Maintain and operate water and wastewater mains
- Maintain and operate valves and manholes
- Maintain and operate hydrants and lift stations
- Maintain storage facilities
- Assist with electronic inspection of sewer services
- Assist with records maintenance
- Assist with meter installation and repair
- Meter reading
Qualifications and Required Skills
- Must be a current student enrolled in the NAIT or NWP Water and Wastewater Technician program
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Knowledge of distribution/collection infrastructure repair and maintenance would be an asset
- Must be self-motivated, organized, and safety conscious
- Must be able to work without direct supervision
- Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a proven mechanical aptitude
- Must have good oral, written, and interpersonal skills, supporting our values and principles
- High school or equivalent education
- Possession of Confined Space Entry and Standard First Aid certificates (an asset)
- Valid Canadian drivers license, Class 5 minimum (Non GDL); Class 3 with Q endorsement (air brakes) is an asset
- Travel to other locations we serve, including overnight travel, may be required.
Conditions of Employment
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Satisfactory driver’s abstract
- Satisfactory criminal record check
- Pass 50 lb. fitness test
- Pass comprehensive drug and alcohol test
Compensation is per the CUPE Local 787 collective agreement.
