About the Role
Aquatera is seeking a senior process mechanical engineer to provide technical leadership across water and wastewater treatment, distribution, and collection systems. This role focusses on process optimization, regulatory compliance, capital planning, and operational support while mentoring team members and collaborating closely with engineering and operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion Aquatera’s safety culture and organizational values.
- Lead process engineering initiatives for water and wastewater systems; contribute to mechanical solutions as needed.
- Support plant master planning and long‑range capital planning.
- Conduct feasibility studies, preliminary engineering, and technical reviews.
- Develop and maintain process design standards, specifications, and best practices.
- Provide technical oversight and professional sealing of process documentation.
- Lead Management of Change (MOC) reviews, risk assessments, and compliance activities.
- Collaborate with operations on plant optimization, modelling, troubleshooting, outages, and system upsets.
- Maintain accurate P&IDs and support upgrades using AutoCAD or similar tools.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies and support AEPA compliance.
- Mentor and coach team members and promote continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Required Skills
- Must be Legally entitled to work in Canada without limitations.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering
- P.Eng. registration with APEGA or eligibility for cross‑provincial transfer.
- Minimum 10 years of engineering experience, preferably in municipal water/wastewater or industrial environments.
- Strong expertise in process design, modelling, and optimization; plant operations experience is highly valued.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to support field‑based and multidisciplinary work.
- Proven experience managing Management of Change (MOC) processes.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and technical communication skills.
- Proficient in reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, and technical studies.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and process modelling software; AutoCAD experience is an asset.
- Excellent organizational, judgment, and project management skills.
- Ability to work safely in PPE‑required environments, including regular site visits and exposure to operational hazards.
- Willingness to travel within the region, work variable hours when required, and adapt to changing conditions, including inclement weather.
