The Community Government of Whatì was established following the Tłı̨chǫ Agreement in 2005, embodying the principles of self-governance and cultural heritage. Operating as an independent public government in the Northwest Territories, it provides essential municipal services and drives community development. Governed by an elected Council led by a Tłı̨chǫ Chief, the government is committed to fostering sustainable growth while preserving the rich Tłı̨chǫ traditions. With a population of approximately 600, Whatì faces the unique challenges of a remote Northern community and is dedicated to improving its residents' quality of life.

 Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role located in Whatì, NT, for a Senior Administrative Officer. The Senior Administrative Officer is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Community Government and implementing the strategic goals set by the Council. Primary duties include overseeing administrative functions, managing budgets, supporting community development initiatives, supervising staff, and ensuring the efficient operation of municipal services. The Senior Administrative Officer plays a key role in fostering relationships with stakeholders to promote the community's interests and priorities.

Requirements

Strong skills in General Administration, Organization, and Administrative Assistance
Excellent Communication and Customer Service abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of leadership and team management practices
Proficiency in planning, budgeting, and project management
A commitment to community engagement and understanding of Northern and Indigenous contexts
Previous experience in municipal or public administration is an asset
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field
Familiarity with Tłı̨chǫ language or culture is considered an added advantage
