About You / What We Are Looking For

 

This is a technical and inspectional role involving coordinating and overseeing building security operations for all City facilities. The incumbent will manage City-wide security systems and software, including key management, swipe card management, and CCTV installations. Responsibilities include:

 

  • Conducting regular security audits to identify areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
  • Reviewing and amending security policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring fire safety plans are current.
  • Providing training on security policies and procedures.

 

Additionally, the incumbent will have the opportunity to coordinate the procurement and assignment of work for contracted security guards and third-party security services. Independent judgment and action are exercised in the work, with unusual or policy matters being discussed with a superior who reviews performance based on achieving desired objectives, conformance with established standards, and effectiveness of services rendered. This role offers a platform for personal and professional growth, with the potential for career progression within the organization.

 

This position has a non-standard workweek. Candidates must be available to work Tuesday to Saturday (10:00am-6:00pm). The schedule is subject to change due to operational needs.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Considerable knowledge of principles, practices, and methods applicable to building security protocols and procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of security software for CCTV, key systems and card access systems.
  • Considerable knowledge of security policies, procedures, and fire safety plans applicable to the work performed.
  • Ability to inspect building security operations for all City facilities to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  • Ability to coordinate the procurement and assignment of work for contracted security guards and third-party security services.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and liaison with various internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to the work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to provide training on security policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work with confidential and classified information.
  • Driver’s License for the Province of BC.
  • Basic security training certification, plus considerable related experience in customer service and security; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $33.23 - $39.12. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to participate in an earned day off program. This position is based in Coquitlam.
