Description
The Storm and Wastewater Section is seeking Assistant Utility Operators for hands on physical work assisting the Utility Operators with the installation and repair of the Wastewater and Storm Water systems. The Assistant Utility Operators will further assist in work in and around creeks/waterways and will thoroughly understand environmental protocols and best management practices while assisting in the overall sewer operations, drain equipment, and machinery. This work requires versatility, heavy lifting, and manual dexterity.

Requirements

Requirements include: Grade 12 or equivalent; EOCP O.I.T. (Operator in Training) Certification for Wastewater Collection or Water Distribution is an asset; six months of pipefitting experience in creeks, waterways and wastewater systems; Traffic Control Certificate; Occupational First Aid Level I Certification; valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement; annual renewal for Driver’s Abstract; must work in close proximity or in actual contact with raw sewage and have sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit performance of heavy manual work in all types of weather. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidates will work Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week).

As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted.

Salary & Benefits

These are C.U.P.E. Local 2011 positions with a wage of $33.51 per hour plus 15% in lieu of benefits.
