Do you enjoy working with the public and spending time outside?  If so, this might be a great opportunity for you. Saanich Public Works is seeking a temporary full time Compost Attendant to ensure the safety and smooth operation of the compost drop-off site. The Compost Attendant provides a professional level of customer service; operates a backhoe to maintain the site; coordinates the hauling of full compost bins; upholds the Municipal Safety Policy, promotes, monitors and ensures the public complies with WorkSafe BC regulations within the drop off site; monitors vehicles for contractors/commercial loads; performs sweeping, clean up and traffic control as required and maintains garbage carts including assembly/washing/organization.

Requirements

Requirements include: Grade 11 or equivalent; basic record keeping skills; three months experience in dealing with the public; backhoe certification or experience; valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence; annual renewal of Driver’s Abstract.  Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate will work:

  • Summer Hours - April to end of October: Monday to Friday (40 hours per week) from 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.; and
  • Winter Hours - November to end of March: Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays (32 hours per week) from 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.

As a component of the selection process testing will be conducted.

Salary & Benefits

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $32.06 per hour plus 15% in lieu of benefits. Job description and competition information can be found at www.saanich.ca.
