Description
The Regional District of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Utilities Operator with Water Services, based at the RDN Water Operations office in Parksville.

The Utilities Operator contributes to the effective operation of the Water Services Department by contributing to the effective and efficient operation and maintenance of the water, sewer, drainage, and streetlighting services controlled by the Regional District. This position supports the Water Services Department by assisting team members in their duties to meet service expectations, departmental goals, and objectives.

Requirements

Qualifications include a Post Secondary Diploma in water technology and/or water treatment plus 2 years of job-related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The successful incumbent will have EOCP Certifications in Wastewater Collection I, Water Distribution II and Water Treatment I. Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License with Heavy Trailer endorsement or Class 3 BC Driver’s license is required.   

  • Skills in the operation and maintenance of standard water distribution and treatment equipment.
  • Skills in laboratory testing, methods, and priorities related to water quality.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Ability to deal with the public in a positive and effective manner.
Salary & Benefits

This is a permanent full-time Union position, working 40 hours per week. The 2026 rate of pay is $39.99 to $42.09. The position offers an attractive benefits package as provided within the collective agreement between the Regional District of Nanaimo and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 401.
