The District of Saanich's Parks, Recreation and Community Services department is seeking a team player to help drive our mission of Healthy Nature, Healthy People, and Healthy Community, while supporting our vision: a Saanich where everyone belongs.

The Community Services Division is seeking an experienced Programmer II – Child and Youth Services to lead the development, delivery and evaluation of inclusive recreation and community-based programs for children and youth.

The successful candidate will provide demonstrated leadership in the delivery of centralized services for marginalized and vulnerable youth. They will oversee program areas, guide and support staff; build effective community partnerships, and ensure programs remain responsive to evolving and emerging community needs, changing expectations and barriers to participation.

The Programmer II provides leadership, supervision and development for full-time programming staff, and a large casual and instructional staff team. This role provides guidance and oversight of the youth centre facilities and several off-site locations for day camps and youth programming. The Programmer II will manage a significant operating budget, equipment and resource allocations. Responsibilities include conducting community and participant needs assessments, development of community partnerships with schools, social services and other youth serving organizations to meet evolving needs of youth in our community.

This role requires responsive, community-centered approach to youth programming, including the ability to adapt services and initiatives as youth needs, service expectations and community conditions change. The Programmer II will identify opportunities to improve access, inclusion and reduce barriers to participation; coordinate supports and partnerships to address the needs of our marginalized and vulnerable youth population.

Requirements

Requirements include a university degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies or a related field, and three years of experience in recreation programming and staff supervision. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Employment is subject to a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) dated within the last six months, with renewal as required by policy.

Salary & Benefits
