Gordon Head Recreation Centre is seeking an experienced Team Leader – Aquatics to provide operational leadership and support for aquatic programming. Under the general direction of a Program Technician or Programmer, the successful candidate will guide on-duty staff, help ensure safe and effective program delivery, and contribute to a positive experience for facility users.
The Team Leader directs programs during assigned shifts, provides guidance to lifeguards and instructors, monitors pool and change room safety, completes inspections and reports, and ensures emergency and program equipment is ready for use. The position also supports staff training and scheduling, responds to customer inquiries, provides instruction during assigned shifts, and takes a lead role in emergency situations.
Requirements include completion of Grade 12; two years of lifeguarding experience, including two years of teaching experience; current CPR-C, Standard First Aid, National Lifeguard (Pool), and Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification. Occupational First Aid Level 1 may be required; Lifesaving Swim Trainer certification is considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Employment is subject to a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) no older than six months, with renewal as required by policy.
The successful candidate will work varying shifts, including early mornings, evenings and weekends. Hours and shifts are assigned seasonally by a supervisor and are subject to change based on operational needs. A minimum of 14 hours per week is required, with a targeted base of 25 hours per week where feasible. As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted.
