The Saanich Police Department is seeking two highly skilled Digital Forensic Analyst IIs to join the Administration Division. These permanent full-time positions are ideal for experienced digital forensic professionals who thrive in a dynamic investigative environment and are committed to providing expert technical support in complex criminal investigations.
Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the Digital Forensic Analyst II is responsible for the collection, preservation, processing, analysis and disclosure of digital media evidence from a wide variety of sources in accordance with legislative requirements, industry standards and forensic best practices. The role provides technical expertise in forensic video analysis, facial comparison and digital evidence recovery, including work involving encrypted, damaged or partially recoverable media. Responsibilities include attending crime scenes to collect digital evidence, preparing disclosure packages and technical reports for Crown Counsel, providing expert court testimony, developing policies and workflows, maintaining specialized forensic hardware and software, training police personnel, and collaborating with investigators, Crown Counsel and community partners to support criminal investigations. The position also requires maintaining strict confidentiality while working with sensitive and, at times, graphic digital evidence.
Requirements include a two-year diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Digital Forensics, Audio/Video Technology or a related field from a recognized institution, together with current industry certification in Forensic Video Analysis and Facial Comparison from recognized training providers such as LEVA, AMPED, Cellebrite or equivalent. Candidates must have a minimum of five years of related experience in forensic video analysis or a similar role, including multimedia video production and editing, and demonstrate expertise with digital video systems, forensic software, network technologies and digital evidence disclosure. Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro and Microsoft Office applications is required, along with a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence. The successful candidate must successfully obtain and maintain the required enhanced reliability security clearance, including polygraph testing. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful candidate will be required to work Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This position requires successful completion and maintenance of the Saanich Police enhanced reliability security clearance, including polygraph testing, and strict adherence to privacy and confidentiality requirements.
