The Recreation Division is seeking an enthusiastic and community-focused Programmer I – Fitness to join the Saanich Commonwealth Place team. This permanent full-time position is ideal for a collaborative recreation professional who is passionate about health, wellness, and delivering high-quality fitness programs that support diverse community needs.

Reporting to a Programmer II, the Programmer I is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating registered and drop-in fitness programs and services. The role includes recruiting, training and supervising instructors, coordinating program schedules and facility use, and ensuring high-quality program delivery through ongoing evaluation and participant feedback. The Programmer I also develops community partnerships, supports marketing and promotional initiatives, prepares program materials, contributes to budget planning, and ensures programs operate effectively within established resources.

Requirements

Requirements include completion of a two-year post-secondary diploma in recreation, leisure studies or a related field, a current BCPRA, CanFitPro or equivalent certification in Group Fitness along with a minimum of two years of experience in program planning and staff supervision in a fitness setting. Candidates must demonstrate strong organizational, communication and customer service skills, as well as experience or knowledge in fitness programming. Additional fitness certifications will be considered an asset. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence may be required. Employment is subject to a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Salary & Benefits
