The Engineering Department, Transportation and Development Services Division is seeking an Engineering Technician III to perform technical work at a semi-professional level in support of development servicing, municipal infrastructure review, and civil engineering projects. This role focuses on a mix of office and field assignments related to land development applications, subdivision and servicing reviews, construction inspection, municipal infrastructure coordination, technical analysis, and liaison with developers, consultants, contractors, utilities, and the public.
Key responsibilities include reviewing and coordinating development servicing submissions for compliance with municipal bylaws, standards, and servicing requirements; carrying out technical reviews, cost estimates, and investigations related to water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation, transit, and street lighting infrastructure associated with development projects; supporting civil design review and construction inspection; and acting as project inspector and/or project manager for smaller municipal servicing and infrastructure improvement projects. The role also includes reviewing utility and consultant designs, inspecting civil works to confirm compliance with permits, bylaws, standards, and design requirements, supporting installation and acceptance processes, and responding to enquiries from developers, consultants, contractors, and the public.
The ideal candidate will have a two-year post-secondary program in Civil and Structural Engineering Technology; three years of directly related experience in municipal engineering and/or public works inspection; and registration as an AScT with ASTTBC. Strong knowledge of computer-based engineering applications such as Bluebeam Revu and a valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s Licence are required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
The successful applicant will work Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week) with flex days, varying hours of work, and work from home opportunities available.
