Parks, Recreation and Community Services is seeking a creative, energetic and team-oriented Community Programmer I to join the Community Services Division – Child & Youth Services. This permanent full-time position is ideal for a motivated individual with experience in youth recreation who is passionate about creating inclusive programs and supporting diverse and underserved youth in the community.
Under the direction of the Community Programmer II, the Community Programmer I is responsible for the operation of a Youth Centre and for planning, developing and implementing recreational, social and cultural programs aligned with the Youth Development Strategy. Responsibilities include program design, delivery and evaluation; recruiting, training and supervising staff; coordinating facility use and schedules; supporting summer camps for children and youth; and managing program promotion and customer service. The role also involves developing partnerships with community organizations, supporting program revenue and expenses within budget, leading and attending meetings, and participating in internal and external committees as required.
Requirements include completion of a two-year college diploma in recreation or a related field, along with a minimum of two years of experience in community recreation programming and staff supervision. Candidates must demonstrate strong organizational, communication and leadership skills, as well as proficiency with MS Office applications; experience with tools such as Canva is considered an asset. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required. Employment is subject to a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening. Experience programming for a diverse range of youth will be considered an asset. The successful candidate will be required to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends.
