The Water Resources Division of Saanich Engineering provides engineering services for the management of the municipal sanitary sewer, potable water and storm drainage systems. We are recruiting for an intermediate civil engineering technologist to join our fast paced and diverse team. The ideal candidate possesses a sound technical foundation, has a base understanding of project management principles, is well organized, has strong communication skills and an appetite for learning.
Key activities include:
- responding to public inquiries
- resolving field issues;
- liaising with the public;
- reviewing development drawings; and
- participating in intra or inter-departmental initiatives as representative for the team
- assist in capital budgeting
The role works under the guidance of professional engineers in the team; is afforded an appropriate level of independence in completing work assignments and an extraordinary variation in work tasks that will expand your functional knowledge of municipal infrastructure management in local government setting.
Requirements include: a two-year Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution; three months of related experience; eligible for registration with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC; conversant with computer-based engineering applications including AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bluebeam Revu; and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and a personal vehicle that meets the requirements described in the Transportation policy, available for use as and when required. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidates will work Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week) and will be eligible for participation in the District’s modified work week program (37.5 hours worked per week and every third Friday or Monday off). Flexible working hours and remote work are also available subject to operational needs.
