The Water Resources Division of Saanich Engineering provides engineering services for the management of the municipal sanitary sewer, potable water and storm drainage systems. We are recruiting for an intermediate civil engineering technologist to join our fast paced and diverse team. The ideal candidate possesses a sound technical foundation, has a base understanding of project management principles, is well organized, has strong communication skills and an appetite for learning.
Key activities include:
- project scoping, preparing designs or managing designs prepared by consultants, and delivering projects from the concept phase through to construction completion;
- providing technical support to internal construction crews and liaising with/making recommendations to the Engineering of Record regarding field design changes;
- responding to public inquiries
The role works under the guidance of professional engineers in the team; is afforded an appropriate level of independence in completing work assignments and an extraordinary variation in work tasks that will expand your functional knowledge of municipal infrastructure management in local government setting.
Requirements include a two-year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institution; a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience; is eligible for registration as an AScT with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians BC; possesses a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License. Alternate qualifications will also be considered, such as a University Degree in a related field of Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of related work experience, and eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC as an Engineer-In-Training.

The successful candidates will work Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week) and will be eligible for participation in the District’s modified work week program (37.5 hours worked per week and every third Friday or Monday off). Flexible working hours and remote work are also available subject to operational needs.
This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $51.2848.01 per hour (20264 rates) plus and excellent benefits package.
