Description
Are you interested in embarking on a career in Public Works?  We have a great entry level opportunity which will help you gain skills, knowledge and ability in all sections of Public Works. The Public Works Division is seeking multiple casual labourers to perform manual work requiring considerable physical effort and agility in the performance of a variety of manual construction and maintenance tasks. 

Requirements

Requirements include: Grade 10 or equivalent; valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence; annual renewal of Driver’s Abstract; valid Traffic Control Certificate and one month of previous experience and on-the-job training.  Due to the nature of the work, all candidates must possess sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit performance of heavy manual work in all types of weather.   Preference will be given to those candidates with experience/skill/certification and ability in the following areas: public works related construction, pipefitting, asphalt maintenance and repairs, waterworks and storm and wastewater related maintenance and repairs; working in riparian areas including restoration and spills containment; water meter reading and/or experience operating right hand drive refuse trucks requiring a class 3 Driver’s Licence.

The successful candidates will work Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with occasional Saturdays and/or a 4:30 a.m. start based on operational requirements.

Salary & Benefits

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $34.18 per hour (2026 rate) plus 15% in lieu of benefits. Job description and competition information can be found at www.saanich.ca.
