The Engineering Department is at the heart of designing, maintaining, and enhancing the district’s infrastructure and essential services. Within Public Works, the Waterworks Section is responsible for delivering clean, safe drinking water to the community and maintaining critical water infrastructure. We are currently seeking a motivated and safety-conscious individual to join our team as a Utility Operator I – Waterworks.

As a Utility Operator I, you will support the maintenance and installation of the potable water distribution system. This includes assisting with live taps on water mains, laying pipe, operating and maintaining various equipment, and performing manual labour such as shoveling, loading materials, and cleaning job sites. You will also contribute to maintaining water quality by following environmental best practices and safety protocols in all aspects of your work. This role is physically demanding and requires teamwork, reliability, and a strong commitment to public service.  This position requires sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit performance of heavy manual work in all types of weather conditions.

Requirements

Requirements include Grade 12 or equivalent; one year of pipefitting experience in water or wastewater systems; EOCP OIT (Operator in Training) Certification for Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection is considered an asset; Traffic Control Certificate; Occupational First Aid Level 1 and confined space entry training as required; and basic navigation skills of field-based GIS software. A valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement is an asset and annual renewal of a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract are also required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week). In addition to the interview process, testing will be conducted. Only those under consideration will be contacted.

Salary & Benefits
