The Water Resources Division of Saanich Engineering provides professional services for the management of the municipal sanitary sewer, potable water and storm drainage systems. We are recruiting an experienced civil engineering technologist (Level V) to join our fast paced and diverse team. The ideal candidate is either an experienced technologist or an engineering-in-training possessing a sound technical foundation, strong project management skills, is well organized, has strong communication skills and an appetite for learning.
The work of the Engineering Technician V involves performing civil engineering work at a semi-professional level including:
- project scoping, preparing designs or managing designs prepared by consultants and delivering projects from the concept phase through to construction completion as the internal project manager;
- responding to public inquiries;
- providing technical support to internal construction crews and liaising with/making recommendations to the Engineering of Record regarding field design changes; and
- mentoring junior staff.
The role works under the guidance of professional engineers in the team; is afforded an appropriate level of independence in completing work assignments and an extraordinary variation in work tasks that will expand your functional knowledge of municipal infrastructure management in local government setting.
Requirements include a two-year diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution; a minimum of 8 years of directly related experience; registered as an AScT with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC; a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence. Alternate qualifications will also be considered, such as a University Degree in a related field of Engineering and four (4) years of work experience, and eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC as an Engineer-In-Training.

The successful candidates will work Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week), will be eligible for participation in the District’s modified work week program. Flexible working hours and remote work are also available subject to operational needs. As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted.
