Step into a leadership role that directly shapes the City's most essential water, wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste infrastructure. As the Manager of Environmental Utilities Engineering, you'll drive major projects, guide a skilled engineering team, and help deliver safe, reliable services that make a real impact in our community. If you're energized by complex challenges and motivated to lead meaningful change, this role is for you.

We're a team that believes how we work is just as important as the work we do. Grounded in our values-Own It, Team Up, Be Curious, and Service with Care-we're committed to delivering meaningful impact for our community while supporting each other along the way.

How you'll own it

  • Lead strategic engineering and capital planning-aligning projects, budgets, and long‑term infrastructure priorities with regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the design and delivery of municipal water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient systems.
  • Build and support a high‑performing engineering team through coaching, workload planning, and effective leadership of staff and consultants.
  • Tackle complex technical challenges across water, wastewater, and solid waste systems-using data, research, and engineering standards to guide decisions.
  • Manage tendering, budgeting, contracting, and project approvals with accuracy and accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Champion clear communication, collaboration, safety, and compliance with internal teams, external agencies, and government partners.

A closer look at the role

  • Guide strategic plans, budgets, and capital grant applications that drive Environmental Utilities projects forward.
  • Support the design, analysis, and tender preparation for water and sewer infrastructure to keep essential systems safe and reliable.
  • Secure municipal, provincial, and federal approvals needed to advance projects, navigating complex requirements with clear and timely communication.
  • Manage capital and operating budgets while ensuring strong processes, safety standards, and regulatory compliance across all activities.
  • Lead and develop an engaged engineering team, building capacity and supporting high‑quality technical work from staff and consultants.
  • Stay connected to field operations through inspections, testing, monitoring, and data review to maintain compliance and service excellence.
  • Oversee engineering standards, infrastructure records, GIS data, and technical tools that enable accurate planning and design across the department.
