Job Description 

 

Reporting to the Community Program Coordinator, Group Fitness the Community Program Supervisor-Group Fitness will work as part of a City of Markham Fitness Strategy team that is responsible for the delivery of all group fitness programs and services within all City of Markham recreation facilities. This position will mentor, support, motivate and provide guidance on performance management of all Group Fitness Instructors within the Centers while maintaining positive relationships with fellow area staff, residents, community groups and clients. The Community Program Supervisor will be a frontline Subject Matter Support to all fitness councilors and group fitness instructors.  

 

Work Period:

 

Work Term: Approximately 35 hours per week

Schedule: Primarily daytime shifts, with some evening and weekend requirements based on operational needs.

 

 

Duties

  • Assist Community Recreation Coordinator – Group Fitness in providing administration and supervision for program services within the group fitness portfolio within the City of Markham Recreation Department.
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, payroll and managing performance of part-time group fitness staff
  • Assist with development and ongoing monitoring of operating budgets including identification of capital budget needs
  • Assist in the development and implementation of an annual Training Plan
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to establish season schedules that reflect the needs of the community
  • Willingness to lead by example and conduct New Member Orientation appointments and teach a variety of Group Fitness Classes
  • Plan and implement new and innovative group fitness classes that reflect industry trends and community needs
  • Ensure an environment of customer service excellence exists when dealing with all internal and external stakeholders
  • Conduct regular customer satisfaction surveys
  • Assist with the preparation and presentation of promotional materials
Requirements

Requirements

  • Post secondary education (College diploma or University degree) in recreation or appropriate discipline.
  • Minimum three years full-time supervisory experience in a fitness center setting with direct experience in Group Fitness 
  • Valid Group Fitness Certification mandatory
  • Ability to teach a variety of Group Fitness Classes which includes Choreography-based classes
  • Personal Training Certification an asset
  • Current certifications in Standard First Aid and CPR C.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License
  • Proficiency in MS office.
  • Proficiency in a variety of virtual fitness platforms. 
  • Satisfactory VSS
