Bring your strategic financial expertise to a team that's shaping the future of our city.

As a key leader within our Corporate Planning & Performance team, you'll play a pivotal role in driving long‑range financial strategy, guiding corporate budgeting processes, and informing major financial decisions that impact the sustainability and success of our municipality. If you're energized by complex financial modeling, passionate about public sector excellence, and ready to influence decisions at the highest level, this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact.

What you'll do

  • Lead the development of long‑range financial models, forecasts, and proforma statements to support strategic decision‑making.
  • Manage the annual budget update and multi‑year corporate budgeting processes, ensuring alignment with legislation, Council priorities, and best‑practice standards.
  • Analyze financial performance, identify fiscal risks, and prepare recommendations, reports, and briefing notes for leadership and Council.
  • Coordinate corporate financial strategies, consolidation of departmental budgets, and communication of budget information to internal and public audiences.
  • Collaborate across departments on capital planning, asset management, and city‑wide financial risk identification.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and project oversight to support a collaborative, performance‑driven team environment.
  • Represent the organization in professional forums and support continuous improvement in financial planning practices.

A day in the life

No two days look the same in this role. One morning you may be diving into long‑range financial models or analyzing new fiscal risks; the next, you might be meeting with departments to discuss budget needs or preparing insights for Executive Leadership or Council. Your day could shift from refining forecasts and consolidating budgets to collaborating on public‑facing budget materials or exploring financial impacts of new initiatives. Throughout it all, you'll support your team, solve emerging challenges, and help guide decisions that shape the City's financial future.

Requirements

What you bring

We're looking for candidates who bring many of the following strengths:

  • Strong analytical thinking, sound judgement, and the ability to work independently.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and support high‑performing teams.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Advanced expertise in ERP systems, financial software, and Microsoft Office tools including PowerBI and advanced Excel functions (Power Query, Power Pivot, VBA).
  • Deep understanding of municipal finance, budgeting, capital planning, and sustainability frameworks.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to high‑quality financial stewardship and public service excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree majoring in Finance or Accounting from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA).
  • Minimum six (6) years of experience in an accounting or financial environment, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory role.
  • Public sector experience is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
