What You’ll Do:

  • Processes, analyses and assesses development applications in terms of conformance with the Official Community Plan, Development Permit Guidelines, and other pertinent bylaws and provincial guidelines.
  • Prepares reports suggesting whether to accept or decline proposals, along with proposing suitable terms or conditions for proposal acceptance.
  • Reviews restrictive covenants, easements, statutory right-of-ways, and instrument releases for form and content, and coordinates information sharing for approval and registration.
  • Prepares maps, charts, graphs, and other material for public consultation presentations.
  • Responds to public inquiries regarding city planning, zoning, proposed land use and development.
Requirements

Requirements:

  • Degree in Planning or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience) with eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of BC.
  • Proven experience in land use planning, including complex projects such as developing and reviewing Official Community Plans (OCPs) and Zoning Bylaws.
  • Strong understanding of the Local Government Act, Community Charter, Land Title Act, and other relevant BC legislation and policies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain respectful, professional relationships with diverse stakeholders, including applicants, landowners, agencies, and team members.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, ability to prioritize workloads, and sensitivity to political and community dynamics in a small, rural, northern setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
Salary & Benefits

2026 Hourly Rate (Junior Planner): $56.78 after probation

2026 Hourly Rate (Senior Planner): $62.46 after probation
