The Engineering Department – Transportation and Development Division is responsible for planning, designing, and implementing key transportation projects that support safe, sustainable, and efficient movement throughout the District. The division plays a vital role in shaping Saanich’s transportation networks, land development processes, and environmental sustainability efforts.

We are currently seeking a Student Engineering Technician to join our team. In this role, you will assist with a variety of engineering tasks including but not limited to drafting civil engineering drawings using AutoCAD, conducting road safety or traffic studies, conducting site visits and inspections at ongoing construction projects, preparing engineering reports, mapping and analysis using ArcGIS tasks, developing conceptual designs, and performing basic engineering calculations. This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience while contributing to meaningful public infrastructure projects.

Requirements

Requirements include completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, along with at least one year of post-secondary education in an Engineering program at a university or technical institution. Candidates must be currently enrolled in a full-time post-secondary program. A minimum of one month of work experience is required, and an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A valid BC Class 5 or 7 Driver’s Licence is also required. The successful candidate must be physically fit to perform field duties and will be expected to work both in office and outdoor environments.

Salary & Benefits

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $31.22 per hour plus 15% in lieu of benefits. Job description and competition information can be found at www.saanich.ca.
