The Sponsorship and Promotional Events Coordinator will lead the implementation of all sponsorship, protocol, culture and merchandise initiatives for the 2026 Alberta Summer Games, a multi-sport event supporting approximately 2,500 athletes, coaches, and technical officials. The Alberta Summer Games will take place between July 16-19, 2026.
This position focuses on implementing the sponsorship program, which includes covering the sponsorship cycle from planning, prospecting, recruitment, agreement development, fulfilment and reporting, as well as coordination of promotional event activities. This role will work closely with the Games Coordinators who are responsible for participant experience; sports and facilities; ceremonies and volunteers; as well as finance, administration, registration and results.
Success in this position requires a proactive, adaptable, and results-oriented individual that has the ability to think strategically while effectively balancing competing priorities. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with the Games Manager and the sponsorship and marketing teams in Recreation Parks & Culture to develop and implement the sponsorship strategy that adheres to Strathcona County’s corporate guidelines and the requirements as defined in the provincial Games Operations Manuals
- Oversee and implement branding and merchandise strategies to support revenue generation and brand awareness including merchandise vendor contract management, facility sale activations, point of sale strategies and reporting
- Manage the Youth Ambassador Program including schedule and promotional opportunity development, social media campaigns and Games weekend requirements
- Research and source potential sponsors to support the financial responsibilities of hosting the games, as well as negotiate, develop, and finalize agreements for both financial and in-kind service sponsorships
- Develop a sponsorship recognition, fulfilment and communications plan for all major sponsorships with the event; include activation planning, public/community relations opportunities for sponsors, digital recognition strategies and more
- Plan/host, sponsor, partner and delegate networking events leading up to and during the games, including public speaking at networking events to support promotion of the games, foster connections, and generate leads for sponsorships and advertising opportunities
- Lead planning and coordination of Friends of Games Reception including the acquisition and management of venue and production requirements, food and beverage, VIP guest protocol and invitation administration, staffing and volunteer recruitment as defined in the provincial Games Operations Manuals.
- Lead planning and coordinator of the Torch Relay, liaising with the Government of Alberta, marketing teams in Recreation Parks & Culture, Games Coordinators and title sponsor for venue and production requirements, video content and key messages aligning with the Games communications strategies
- Oversee all culture and tourism initiatives for the Games including coordination with Strathcona County Recreation, Parks & Culture, Facilities and Economic Development and Tourism Supervisory teams to facilitate and promote local culture and art opportunities within the community with a focus on enhancing visitor experience and community interaction.
- Adhere to the sponsorship and promotions, culture and event budgets, oversee, administer and report on funds to ensure timely and effective use of budget dollars to meet the event needs
Qualifications and Skills:
- Post-secondary degree in business/commerce, marketing, communications, sport and recreation management or a related discipline with a minimum of 1-year related work experience, or; a post-secondary diploma in one of these areas with 3 years of work experience in marketing, communications or sponsorship may be considered
- A proven track record planning and managing events and developing sponsorship programs, drafting agreements, generating revenue, and managing the sponsorship and event cycle from initiation to fulfillment and reporting
- Proficiency working in administrative and business management systems such as Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint
- Demonstrated experience directly managing social media accounts is an asset
- Political acumen is an asset
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence
- Submission of a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required (longer hours leading up to the event)
Pay Range: $42.38 - $52.97
