The Volunteer and Ceremonies Coordinator will lead the implementation of all volunteers, ceremonies and participant needs leading up to the 2026 Alberta Summer Games, a multi-sport event supporting approximately 2,500 athletes, coaches, and technical officials. The Alberta Summer Games will take place between July 16-19, 2026. 

This position is responsible for volunteer recruitment, training and management strategies, ceremonies, event planning and coordination. This role will work closely with the 2026 Alberta Summer Games Society, 2026 Summer Games manager and Games Coordinators, Government of Alberta Provincial Multisport Games unit as well as other Strathcona County departments and community partners. 

Success in this position requires collaboration, team building and excellent facilitation skills to navigate and balance competing demands and needs of varying groups. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, possess the ability to complete complex projects on tight deadlines and demonstrate a strong ability to multitask. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the Alberta Games Event Management System for Volunteer recruitment 
  • Develop a standardized process for Coordinators to request, allocate and schedule volunteers 
  • Manage all communication related to Games Volunteers including inquires, registration, and position specific requirements 
  • Liaise with Sport and Facility coordinator to determine volunteer space, hours of operation, signage and equipment requirements within all venues 
  • Manage all operational and logistical requirements for opening and closing ceremonies and participant entertainment events 
  • Arrange and oversee all equipment, production, scheduling and show programming ensuring technical and logistical requirements are met 
  • Execute a comprehensive emergency preparedness plan for ceremonies and events 
  • Oversee all elements of ceremonies including facility set up, tear down, rehearsals, pre-ceremony entertainment and contract management
  • Submit and schedule all required permits, inspections, and safety walkthroughs for event venues 
  • Maintain administrative duties by writing reports, managing contracts, overseeing portfolio budget 
Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Post Secondary degree in Recreation Administration, Event Management, Business or related discipline with minimum 1-year of related work experience or a post secondary diploma in one of these areas with 3+ years of work experience in a leadership capacity within operations, event planning, facilities, community/policy development, or public engagement 
  • ICS training is an asset 
  • Proficiency working in administrative and business management systems such as Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint 
  • Political acumen and supervision of staff, volunteers and community group leadership roles is an asset 
  • Experience with large scale event management is an asset 
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)  

 

Conditions of Employment: 

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence 
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time  
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required (longer hours leading up to the event) 
Salary & Benefits

Pay Range: $42.38 - $52.97
