The District of Saanich is seeking two Assistant Utility Operators for hands on physical work assisting the Utility Operators with the installation and repair of the Water systems. The successful candidates will assist with live tapping of watermains as well as assist with work on the potable water systems. The Assistant Utility Operator understands and follows best management practices to maintain water quality. This work requires versatility, heavy lifting, and manual dexterity.

Requirements

Requirements include: Grade 12 or equivalent; EOCP O.I.T. (Operator in Training) Certification for Water Distribution is an asset; six months of pipefitting experience in water main installation; Traffic Control Certificate; Occupational First Aid Level I Certification; valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement; annual renewal for Driver’s Abstract; versatility and manual dexterity are required and must have sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit performance of heavy manual work in all types of weather. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidates will work Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and must be able to work outside in all types of weather.

Salary & Benefits

These are C.U.P.E. Local 2011 positions with a wage of $33.51 per hour (2024 rate) plus an excellent benefits package. Job description and competition information can be found at www.saanich.ca.
