Requirements

The Leaf Truck Operator performs work that includes the safe operation and regular maintenance of tandem axle leaf collection trucks as part of the yearly leaf collection program. Working with labourers and traffic control personnel, the Leaf Truck Operator collects leaves from streets throughout Saanich while providing customer service in educating residents on the program and working closely with the Chargehand – Solid Waste Services to deal with complaints.  Work will include but will not be limited to traffic control, raking leaves and operating the vacuum hose.

Qualified candidates will possess a grade 12 education; valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement; one year experience in a related field; training and the ability to demonstrate the safe operation and maintenance of leaf collection equipment or other similar commercial vehicles; annual renewal of driver’s abstract.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Hours of work will be Monday to Friday from 6:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (40 hours per week), from October 21, 2024 to January 17, 2025.

Salary & Benefits

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a base wage of $37.07/hour plus 15% in lieu of benefits. Job description and competition information can be found at www.saanich.ca.
