The District of Saanich is the largest municipality on beautiful Vancouver Island, blending urban and rural environment and home to approximately 124,000 citizens. Saanich is seeking a Planner or Planning Analyst to join our Current Planning team for an 18-month term position. The successful candidate will be self-motivated with strong skills in policy analysis, urban design, written and verbal communication, and customer service. The individual will be team focused, working with a diverse group of professionals to implement our Official Community Plan.

Requirements

Planner: You will undertake a wide variety of municipal planning work including reviewing development applications, undertaking policy analysis and design review; conducting research, and preparing reports and correspondence. Requirements include a Master’s Degree in Planning, five years’ experience in planning (preferably municipal planning); membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners. 

Planning Analyst: You may also be interested in gaining valuable experience in a Planning Analyst role. Responsibilities are varied and include providing support to Current Planners, reviewing development applications, completing plan checks, conducting research and analysis, and preparing reports and correspondence. Requirements include a Master’s degree in planning or related discipline, and two years of Planning experience.

Candidates will be assessed based on their qualifications (including a combination of education and experience).

Salary & Benefits

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of either $56.08 per hour (Planner) or $49.41 (Planning Analyst), an excellent benefits package and a generous pension plan.
