About You / What We Are Looking For

Our Parks, Recreation, Culture and Facilities department is currently recruiting two Food Service Worker 1 to join our team in a regular part time capacity.  One position will be located at Dogwood Pavilion, and the other position will be located at Glen Pine Pavilion.  Our kitchen services play an essential role in establishing a friendly and enjoyable environment for patrons and members of the public to relax and enjoy their time at these facilities.

Reporting to a senior Food Services staff member, these positions will support two adult based community centres food service operations. Working in a fast paced but fun commercial kitchen environment, key responsibilities include: preparing and serving lunch meals and baked goods, cleaning kitchen equipment and food preparation areas, maintaining a tidy and hazard-free food area, handling payment using a point-of-sales system, assisting with receiving supplies and stocking the kitchen, and directing volunteers as needed.  This position must strictly adhere to established health regulations and maintain a healthy, safe and positive environment for food services access.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have completed 10th grade education, and must have experience in and knowledge of food preparation, cooking and baking, health regulations and guidelines pertaining to the preparation and service of food, cash handling and possess excellent communication, interpersonal skills and customer service.  A Food Safe Level 1 certificate is a requirement.

Work shifts can vary between 7:00am and 4:30 pm and candidates are required to work evenings when operationally required.

Preferred Qualifications

Serving it Right and valid First Aid certificates are preferred.  Previous experience working with volunteers and seniors would also be a considerable asset.

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $25.70- $26.95 (2024 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
