About You / What We Are Looking For

The City of Coquitlam is currently recruiting two regular part-time and additional auxiliary Program Leaders to join our fitness weight room team.  We are looking for individuals who provide excellent customer interactions by maintaining a professional and positive attitude when greeting and offering assistance to the valued participants of the City of Coquitlam weight rooms. 

Working in the weight room, you will assist and orient patrons by delivering knowledge and expertise on the use of equipment to ensure our members are using the facilities safely and effectively.  In addition, you will be responsible for enforcing the weight room code of conduct. This recreation work involves leadership responsibility for implementing and leading a variety fitness programs assigned by the Recreation Fitness Coordinator, setting up and monitoring equipment, and keeping equipment clean and safe.  You will also be required to prepare and maintain general documentation and records pertaining to the weight room and fitness centre.  This key position plays an essential role in providing exceptional customer service to members of the public at various weight room facilities in our community. 

Minimum Qualifications

Selected candidates must possess the below certifications:

  • Emergency First Aid.
  • CPR A/AED or equivalent.
  • BCRPA Registered Weight Trainer and/or Personal Trainer (or equivalent affiliation).

Candidates must be available to work evenings and weekends as operationally requited.  Completion of grade 12 education is a requirement.  Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with teammates, supervisors, and members of the public is essential to the success of this position.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working and providing training and guidance to patrons in a recreational weight room setting, and knowledge of fitness equipment and machines will be an asset.  Knowledge of relevant software and programs including MS Suite and XPLOR Recreation, as well as additional specialized fitness certifications such as Group Fitness would be an asset. 

What We Offer:

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $25.22 - $29.48 (2024 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to participate in an earned day off/flex day program. This position is based in Coquitlam with some flexible, hybrid work options available. The City offers an attractive vacation and extended benefits package, including the ability to contribute to the Municipal Pension Plan.
