About You / What We Are Looking For

Our Recreation division is recruiting for our next Youth Coordinator to focus on specialized recreational work that supports and implements youth and young adult initiatives across Parks, Recreation, Culture and Facilities and other City departments! This position will coordinate, collaborate and cross-promote various initiatives of the Youth Strategy, including youth engagement activities and program development across City departments.  They will support staff with research and planning of various projects related to youth and young adults, assesses gaps in programs and service delivery, implement new and/or improved work methods and processes, support staff in the enhancement of relationships with youth and youth-focused community organizations, agencies, neighboring cities and school district and will plan, assign and oversee the work of part-time and auxiliary staff.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring considerable knowledge of the social, cultural and recreational needs of youth, practices and objectives of organized community services and programs for youth, as well as of the services provided by community resource groups, committees and agencies that deal with youth.  A college or university graduation in recreation, child and youth care or psychology plus sound related experience including oversight of youth services and programs; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. A driver’s licence for the Province of BC (with satisfactory driving record) and a police information check (with no adverse reports) is required.

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $37.56 - $44.20/hour (2024 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to participate in an earned day off/flex day program. This position is based in Coquitlam. The City offers an attractive vacation and extended benefits package, including the ability to contribute to the Municipal Pension Plan.
