About You / What We Are Looking For

 

We are currently recruiting for individuals with flexible schedules who are self-motivated, responsible and team players to work for in the Parks division for seasonal assignments. Our 2024 auxiliary or part time Labourer 2’s must enjoy working outdoors, performing regular physical activity that is often repetitive in nature in all types of weather. You must further have the physical strength, stamina and coordination to perform heavy labour intensive manual work. If you are looking to perform a variety of construction and maintenance tasks, while also having an opportunity to utilize your skills in operating power and hand tools, we look forward to your application!

 

These positions will work in a variety of Parks Operations sections including our Sport Services, Urban Forestry, Infrastructure, Landscape and Park Spark teams.  Examples of duties include:

 

Horticulture/Turf Care Labourer - cutting and maintaining lawns and grounds; planting and maintaining perennials and annuals. Other duties could include assisting in the maintenance of various landscaped, horticultural and turf areas in parks.

 

Sport Services Labourer – maintenance at our Percy Perry Stadium and fields.  Other duties may include the delivery and clean-up of event supplies and litter in parks and trails.

 

Urban Forestry – invasive plant removal, planting and maintaining habitat restoration sites, public education and outreach.

 

Infrastructure – park litter control, maintaining and cleaning park playgrounds, fencing, benches and pathways.

 

Park Spark Team – volunteer outreach, Inspiration Garden care and volunteer support

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Completed some high school education.
  • Experience in general construction and maintenance work, preferably in a position equivalent to that of a Labourer 1.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including daytime, evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License (with satisfactory driving record).

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Relevant work or volunteer experience involving general labour with landscaping, urban forestry, or infrastructure maintenance or construction.
  • Education and/or training in landscape maintenance, construction, public outreach events, equipment operations.
  • Experience in driving a truck, operating lawn mowers, line trimmers, and other equipment used in landscaping, construction, or urban forestry.
  • Experience with customer service and volunteer engagement

This CUPE position has an hourly rate of $33.25 plus 12% in lieu of benefits.
