This role may be eligible to participate in our hybrid work program. The successful candidate will be required to reside within 2 hours of Sherwood Park, Alberta. 

Are you an energetic people person who is passionate about agriculture in our community? The Agriculture Initiatives Specialist is a key member of the team that plays an important role providing professional expertise regarding agricultural practices and environmental management, assisting all departments with determining the agricultural impacts due to land use and recommend mitigation to comply with municipal, provincial and federal policies and legislation. Reporting to the Senior Advisor, Agriculture Initiatives, this position is responsible for implementing the Agriculture Master Plan with a focus on planning public agricultural education and extension. 

Responsibilities:

  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, lead the developments agricultural communications and educational programming
  • Contribute to the design, development and implementation of agricultural, branch, and interdepartmental programs and projects
  • Analyze and provide information related to Agriculture and Environmental programs, projects, policies and initiatives to the branch, department and organization
  • Research industry standards and innovation, along with best practices and recommend improvements
  • Provide customer services, including accurate technical information to the public, other jurisdictions, consultants, contractors, developers and other departments
  • Facilitate and conduct public meetings, make presentations to community members and professional audiences, organizing multi-disciplinary teams
Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • University degree in agricultural or environmental studies related area with a minimum of 1 year of experience within related work areas (agriculture business, agriculture industry, local government, project management, agricultural extension and research, events management) OR a diploma in agricultural or environmental field and 3 years of experience within related work areas
  • Working knowledge of regional, provincial and national trends within broad agricultural industries
  • The ability to liaise and negotiate effectively with developers, producers, contractors and the public using effective communication skills 
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and present to a variety of audiences 
  • Eligibility to register as a Professional Agrologist or Professional Biologist is considered an asset
  • IAP2 certification or membership is an asset

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits  
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time 
  • The ability to work some overtime as required, which may include weekend and evening availability as scheduled for events and programs
Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: $74,893.00 - $93,602.60
