If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Lead Hand Carpenter in the Parks Division.

 

Reporting directly to the Park Infrastructure Asset Coordinator, the Lead Hand Carpenter will play a pivotal role in leading a team of Trades Carpenters and Park Operations staff in the construction, replacement and maintenance of a variety of Park Assets. The responsibilities include leading and participating in park enhancement projects, playground replacements, construction of fencing, bridges, boardwalks, docks, and other wooden structures in parks and trails. The Lead Hand assists the Park Infrastructure Asset Coordinator with site supervision and leadership of staff and contractors engaged in construction and repair of park assets, and ensures safety of the crew and the public while working in the parks. You will enjoy working outdoors in all types of weather and enjoy a fast paced and diverse range of project types in this role. You will be part of our famous Lights at Lafarge winter lights production team who has built our Pirate Ship, Castle, Fairy Tale Carriage, and more!   Equipment operating experience with a mini excavator, skid steer, front end loader and either a class 3 or heavy hauler designation is preferred.

 

Qualifications

 

The successful candidate must possess:

 

  • Possession of a BC Certificate of Qualification (Carpenter) and a valid Driver’s License.
  • Completed grade 12 education, supplemented by a recognized apprenticeship in the trade, and relevant certified trades carpentry experience in an outdoor setting
  • Experience supervising others including other Trades Qualified positions
  • 3-5 years’ experience in managing small to medium sized projects in an outdoor setting
  • Police Information Check ( with no adverse reports )

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $46.37. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
