Description

The Fire Department has an exciting opportunity for a skilled individual to join our team as a Fire Mechanic – Emergency Vehicle Technician. This position requires a high degree of mechanical and technical knowledge in the repair and maintenance of firefighting apparatus and related equipment in a dynamic and rapidly evolving industry. The duties are diverse, specialized, and technical in nature, requiring an individual with heavy duty diesel and commercial mechanic skills, including but not limited to; service, maintenance, welding, electrical and fabrication work on a wide variety of apparatus, vehicles, and equipment.

Requirements

Required qualifications include completion of Grade 12 or equivalency certificate supplemented by technical courses related to the mechanical trade; Certification of B.C. or inter-provincial red seal trades qualification in heavy duty or commercial transport mechanics; authorized B.C. Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate or inter-provincial (or out of province) equivalency; Valid B.C. Class 3 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement or inter-provincial equivalency.  The successful applicant will have Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certifications OR as a condition of employment agree to complete the EVT certification program to the Master level within three years of hire date.
