The Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking a progressive leader to join our dynamic organization and drive important and lasting change. The Chief Planner is responsible for the formulation of long range objectives and policies related to future land use and municipal servicing, including the preparation, review and evaluation of municipal planning strategies, land use by-laws and regulations. These recommendations have far reaching implications for the Halifax Regional Municipality, as they regulate use of all land in the Municipality defining the region's settlement pattern. They set the framework for major infrastructure investment impacting future capital budgets and also significantly impacting HRM's operational issues (transit, parks road maintenance).

The Chief Planner will lead a multi-disciplinary team including planners, engineers, technical and administrative staff who are responsible for planning functions.

The Chief Planner is responsible for providing the vision, leadership, and setting the direction of the Planning team. Ensuring the efficient, accurate, professional and coordinated delivery of services; the Chief Planner is responsible to foster and maintain productive relationships with citizens, other levels of government, academia, and non-governmental organizations, development industry, and Regional Council.

Requirements

A Master's degree in Planning, eligibility in the Canadian Institute of Planners and 10 years of progressively responsible experience in professional planning along with supervisory experience are the qualities we are seeking.

Salary & Benefits

As an employer, the Halifax Regional Municipality offers a full range of benefits including a defined benefits pension plan and flexible health and dental benefits. We offer a competitive salary for the position of Chief Planner with a range of $85,000 - $120,000.
