The City of Fort Saskatchewan is a vibrant economic and cultural hub located just 15 minutes northeast of Edmonton on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. Home to more than 20,000 people, the City proudly manages state of the art recreation, culture and historic amenities including 50 km of outdoor trails, a performing arts theatre and fitness centre within the Dow Centennial Centre, and the 1875 – 1885 NWMP Fort representation in historic downtown.

The City of Fort Saskatchewan is currently seeking qualified individuals for the position of Police Clerk within the Fort Saskatchewan R.C.M.P. Detachment. This position provides immediate assistance to emergency and non-emergency situations to RCMP members, the general public, and internal and external agencies. Duties will include complaint taking and dispatching, including emergency dispatching, answering telephones, front counter customer service, computer checks, providing general information and directions, and assisting with workload overflow as required by other sections.
 

Requirements

Candidates will have Grade 12 education with specialized training. Knowledge of proper policies and procedures to ensure the safety of members and public, and experience in completing various justice and legal forms are definite assets. Preference will be given to candidates with minimum two years emergency response experience, and familiarity with dispatching of emergency services and police program systems. The Police Clerk will demonstrate effective public relation skills, and have a high stress tolerance with the ability to assess emergency situations and proceed accordingly. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are crucial to relate appropriately and professionally with internal and external customers. Intermediate keyboarding skills at a minimum accurate typing speed of 50 WPM is required. Only candidates who are inclined to work in a fast paced, demanding environment when required responses are extremely time sensitive and critical in nature need apply. The successful candidates will be appointed by the province as a Community Peace Officer Level 2 for the purpose of serving legal documents and will be expected to pass an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Clearance from the RCMP. The number of hours of work per week may vary based on operational needs.

This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. 
 

Salary & Benefits

Rate of Pay:         $26.97 to $29.63 per hour til December 31, 2012
                               $27.91 to $30.67 per hour effective January 1, 2013
Hours of Work:   7.5 – 9 hour shifts. Varying shifts between the hours of 08:00 a.m. and 02:00 a.m.,  including weekends and holidays.
