Description
Reporting to the Supervisor, Waste Programs, the Senior Transfer Station Attendant will assist the Supervisor, Waste Programs in relaying and following up with expectations to the crews. Promoting positivity, fairness, customer service, safety and accountability will be integral to the role.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manage, lead and oversee the work of the Transfer Station Attendants.
  • Provide mentorship, monitoring and management of the performance of the work crew.
  • Train and/or review Transfer Station Attendants on the safe operation of the City’s Transfer + Eco Station.
  • Assist the Supervisor, Waste Programs by planning the activities of work crews to meet daily work requirements and seasonal programs.
  • Understand and ensure that the site adheres to the regulations set forth by the Alberta Recycling Management Authority. (ARMA)
  • Operate equipment to prepare materials for transportation such as cardboard and garbage compactors, fluorescent bulb crusher and any other equipment deemed necessary.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as the loader, backhoe and skid steer to load materials, and prepare for transportation when required.
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage cash flow effectively, including accurately handling transactions, receiving payments, and providing change to customers.
  • Maintain excellent public relations and on-site communication with residents, the public, other department personnel and contractors involved with daily work activities.
  • Gathering and organizing information related to acquiring quotes from contractors and suppliers.
  • Deal with escalated customer and/or contractor complaint on site.
  • Conduct tailgate safety meetings with the work crew to review issues and concerns.
  • Monitor resident and staff requests for the Transfer + Eco Station using the City’s customer service software platform.
  • Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures.
Requirements

The successful candidate will possess a Grade 12 Diploma and a Class 5 driver’s License.
Completion of supervisory courses or relevant leadership courses along with 3 years of supervisory experience is required. This position requires 5 years’ of related work experience, such as leading waste management teams and 1 year of experience operating equipment such as Skid Steer, Backhoe, Loader or similar heavy equipment. A First Aid certification and basic skills in Microsoft Office Suite is required. The successful candidate must be certified to operate a Skid steer, Backhoe, and Loader or have the equivalent of 5 years’ experience operating heavy equipment. The ability to work with minimal to no supervision, provide strong leadership, promote team building and participate in employee development is essential. This position will be required to work various shifts, take overtime when necessary and accommodate weekend shifts.

This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. A current Driver’s Abstract will be required at the time of interview.

Salary & Benefits

Rate of Pay:         $29.43 - $32.16 per hour

Hours of Work:    80 hours biweekly (varying shifts which may include days, evenings, & weekends)
