The Inspection Services Division is seeking a qualified Building / Plumbing Official 2 to perform skilled office and field inspection work related to residential and commercial construction. This role is responsible for reviewing and processing building and plumbing permit applications, conducting inspections to ensure compliance with the BC Building Code, BC Plumbing Code, and District bylaws, and providing technical guidance to builders, designers, contractors, and the public. The successful candidate will work independently on complex files, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the delivery of safe, code-compliant development within the community.
The ideal candidate will hold BOABC Building Level II certification and Plumbing Level I certification, along with a diploma from a recognized technical college or university in engineering or architecture. A minimum of six years of directly related experience in building design, plan review, permitting, and construction inspections is required, including experience interpreting codes and municipal bylaws. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage competing priorities are essential. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
