The City of Calgary has an opportunity for a Project Lawyer with experience in commercial contracts to work with a diverse group of talented employees and consultants on The City's Green Line Project. Reporting to the Manager, Legal Services for Green Line, this position will be located with the Green Line Project team and will have a significant degree of responsibility. As a Project Lawyer, your primary duties will include: 

  • Negotiate, draft, and review various types of contracts and agreements. This includes procurement documents, construction contracts, access agreements, confidentiality agreements, consulting agreements, various agreements with utility providers, and various types of correspondence. 
  • Provide timely legal and strategic advice and opinions in the areas of procurement, construction, consulting, regulatory issues, and on other related matters.
  • Provide a high level of client service while addressing numerous time sensitive requests in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Work proactively to develop innovative solutions to legal and other issues to advance both project and corporate objectives while mitigating corporate risks.
Requirements
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.), Bachelor of Laws (LL.B), or equivalent degree from a recognized institution and be an active member or eligible for membership with The Law Society of Alberta. 
  • At least 8 years of directly related experience in the areas of commercial contracts, construction contracts, and/or procurement law. 
  • Experience in public procurement, assisting project teams with contract disputes, and providing strategic advice will be considered an asset. 
  • Success in this position requires strong drafting and analytical skills, proven organization skills, a high degree of motivation, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment. 
  • The successful candidate will enjoy collaborating with clients, will be able to work independently but also as part of a team, and is creative and solution oriented in their approach to their work. 
Salary & Benefits

$159,120 - $198,900 per annum
