The City of Fort Saskatchewan is seeking a confident, compassionate, motivated individual to join our Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Team. Reporting to the Director of FCSS, the Youth Outreach Worker provides short-term goal oriented support to local youth and their families in a home, school, office or community space setting. As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Youth Outreach Worker enhances service delivery by facilitating connections with youth, family, schools, and community supports. The Youth Outreach Worker provides information and referrals, advocacy, and 1:1 support that helps youth be successful in school, at home and in their community. Working from a strengths based perspective, the Youth Outreach Worker sets achievable goals that encourage growth and resiliency for each individual and collaborates with a number of community agencies.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist and provide early intervention supports for children, youth and families who are experiencing difficulties or emotional/behavioral concerns.
  • Develop partnerships with community agencies in order to integrate client services.
  • Develop case plans focusing on short term goals and monitor the student/families progress.
  • Coordinate a collaborative approach to service delivery as part of a school-linked team, acting as a liaison between the family, school and other services.
  • Establish and maintain communication networks within community and schools.
  • Document and maintain the records of all activities, including records of assessment, interviews, contact notes and referrals.
Requirements

The successful candidate will have a minimum of a Diploma in Human Services (Social Work, Child & Youth Care), with preference being a Bachelor’s level University Degree in Human Services or related field. A minimum of 1-3 years’ experience working in a related field and valid Alberta Driver’s License is required. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, school and community agency personnel is essential. The candidate will have experience in crisis intervention work with children and families and knowledge of local resources and services.  Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office applications, the internet and social media is required.

A Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check, as well as a Child Intervention Check will be required upon hire.

Hours of Work: 37.5 per week; Monday to Friday

Duration: August 31, 2026 – March 1, 2027
