Gordon Head Recreation Centre’s Building Services Team is hiring up to five casual Building Service Workers (BSW I or BSW II – Pool), with classification determined based on the successful candidates’ qualifications and experience. These positions play a vital role in ensuring safe, clean, and well-maintained recreation facilities for our community. The BSW I focuses on custodial care, daily facility maintenance, and minor repairs, while the BSW II – Pool performs more advanced duties, including operational and preventative maintenance of pool systems, filtration and heating equipment, and maintaining water quality standards.
As a Building Service Worker I, you will perform duties such as setting up and taking down equipment for programs and events; sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and cleaning washrooms and changing rooms; maintaining floors; completing minor repairs; and securing the building.
Candidates qualifying as Building Service Worker II – Pool will additionally operate and service pool mechanical systems, maintain water purity, and perform building maintenance related to HVAC, plumbing fixtures, compressors, and related equipment.
All roles require the ability to work collaboratively, follow safe work practices, and contribute to a positive customer experience.
Requirements for BSW I include: Grade 11 or equivalent; Building Service Worker Level 1; hard floor and carpet care certification as required; three months of related experience; WHMIS certification (valid within one year); Occupational First Aid Level I as required; and a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Candidates must demonstrate sufficient physical strength and stamina to perform the duties and work varying shifts.
Requirements for BSW II – Pool include: Grade 11 or equivalent; Pool Operator I and II certifications; WHMIS certification (valid within one year); Occupational First Aid Level I as required, over three to six months of related experience; and a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Candidates must demonstrate sufficient physical strength and stamina to perform the duties and work varying shifts.
