Through planning, education, and evaluation, you’ll play a key role in fostering a culture of safe active transportation while representing the County in public forums and helping create a more connected, healthy, and vibrant community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of Active Transportation and traffic safety strategies aligned with County priorities
- Develop, update, and manage plans, policies, and bylaws in collaboration with internal and external partners
- Identify, pursue, and administer grant funding from provincial, federal, and private sources
- Monitor best practices and research to inform planning and policy updates
- Support budget planning and tracking to align with program objectives
- Ensure initiatives align with County traffic safety policies and approved plans
- Respond to public inquiries and provide expert advice on Active Transportation
- Manage consultation and engagement projects, including RFP development and oversight
- Oversee implementation of programs, projects, and partnerships supporting Active Transportation
- Review designs, reports, and infrastructure plans for safety, accessibility, and policy compliance; conduct site visits and inspections
- Maintain data, monitor performance, and evaluate program effectiveness to support continuous improvement and strategic planning
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community groups, government agencies, and key stakeholders, collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including internal teams, community groups, and government agencies
- Lead public education and engagement efforts to increase awareness and encourage safe active transportation behaviours
- Research emerging trends and best practices in active transportation and apply them to local initiatives
Qualifications and Skills:
- Post-secondary degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, or a related field with five (5) years of relevant experience, or a diploma in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, or a related field with seven (7) years of related experience. Relevant experience could include experience in municipal government, active transportation planning, traffic safety, or policy development
- A degree in Planning or Public Policy with a focus on mobility and sustainability is preferred
- Demonstrated experience with bike and pedestrian infrastructure projects, multimodal transportation planning, and safety programs
- Familiarity with Vision Zero, Safe Systems, or similar frameworks
- Experience in civil or transportation engineering is an asset
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate programs and recommend improvements
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience engaging public audiences and facilitating discussions
Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
Salary Range: $96,387.20 - $120,484.00
