If you are excited by active transportation, practical project delivery, and technical design using Autodesk Civil 3D, this is a hands-on role where you will help turn concepts into built improvements residents can use every day.
What you will do
As an Engineering Technician II on our Transportation and Development Services team, you will support sustainable mobility and asset management in the municipal right-of-way. With guidance from senior technicians and managers, you will help plan, design, deliver, and close out smaller-scale municipal infrastructure projects—and build your project management experience along the way.
You’ll work on initiatives like:
- Bus stop upgrades
- Crosswalk and safety improvements
- Walking and cycling network enhancements
Your impact (key responsibilities)
Project delivery & inspection
- Manage smaller capital projects from start to finish
- Act as a project inspector as required
- Keep complete, well-organized project records
Design & technical work
- Prepare construction-ready designs and drawings using Autodesk Civil 3D
- Review proposed development/capital drawings and provide comments using Saanich Engineering Specifications
Public-facing work & stakeholder coordination
- Respond to public inquiries and complaints with clear, professional communication
- Support or participate in open houses, workshops, and community engagement
- Liaise with internal crews, contractors, utilities, consultants, agencies, and other project partners
What we are looking for
We are especially interested in candidates who bring:
- Experience and a strong interest in active transportation design
- Autodesk Civil 3D experience (transportation design modelling experience is a strong asset)
- Solid organization, communication, and practical problem-solving skills
- Confidence working with multiple stakeholders and balancing competing priorities

Requirements include: a two-year Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution; three months of related experience; eligible for registration with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC; conversant with computer-based engineering applications including AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bluebeam Revu; and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. As a part of this competition process, testing will be conducted.
