Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with preparation and review criminal court files (adult and youth) to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance prior to swearing charges
- Cross-reference court dockets with disclosure materials to ensure all required documentation is complete and accurate
- Swear criminal charges and initiate judicial processes (e.g., summons, warrants)
- Provide support to Crown Prosecutors
- Coordinate trial dates, court schedules, and member availability
- Liaise with Crown Prosecutors, defence counsel, court staff, RCMP members, and external agencies
- Respond to inquiries regarding court procedures from internal and external stakeholders, including the public
- Explain court procedures to accused persons and assist with withdrawals, adjournments, and related processes
- Coordinate witnesses (including out-of-province) and manage last-minute changes to court schedules
- Maintain accurate records and update systems (e.g., PROS, CPIC) ensuring data integrity
- Track files through the judicial process to completion and ensure timely follow-up actions
- Ensure warrants, probation orders, and other court documentation are received and distributed appropriately
- Provide direction and guidance to administrative support staff on court-related processes
- Manage sensitive materials, including court files and financial documents (e.g., fines/bail payments)
Qualifications and Skills:
- High School Diploma with several years of related experience in a policing or judicial environment
- Post-secondary education is considered an asset
- Minimum of 4 years of related experience in a policing, legal, or judicial environment
- Comprehensive knowledge of courtroom procedures and requirements
- Experience with police records management systems (e.g., PROS, JOIN, CPIC, CJIM, CREF, APIS, TEAM, and E&RIII)
- Strong understanding of the Criminal Code of Canada and applicable federal and provincial legislation
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions, tight deadlines, and exposure to sensitive and potentially distressing material
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and problem-solving skills in complex situations
- CPIC certification and PROS records management certification are assets
Conditions of Employment:
- Ability to obtain and maintain RCMP Reliability Enhanced Security Clearance
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
Salary Range: $73,112.00 - $91,374.40
