About the Role

Vacancy Status: This posting is for newly created vacancies.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Community Programs – Aquatics, Lifeguard and Instructor’s supervise various public and lane swims, teach swim lessons to all ages, prevent accidents, and respond to emergency situations at the Courtice Community Complex, Diane Hamre Recreation Complex and the Alan Strike Aquatic and Squash Centre.

Availability for daytime shifts will be required for these positions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the health and safety of all participants using the facility.
  • Preventing accidents and respond to emergency situations.
  • Demonstrating strong internal and external customer service skills.
  • Demonstrating strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Adhering to lifeguard and operating procedures determined by the Municipality of Clarington, Lifesaving Society and the Ontario Pool Regulations.

What you bring

  • Minimum 15 years of age.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR level ‘C’.
  • Currently Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard (NL) Award.
  • Current Lifesaving Swim Instructor’s Award.
  • Current Lifesaving Society Instructor Award (preferred).
  • Availability to work daytime shifts, as well as occasional evenings/weekends.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.

What we offer you

We offer the following for this position:

  • Rate of pay:
    • $21.91 per hour (2026 rate) for Lifeguard
    • $23.19 per hour (2026 rate) for Instructor
    • $18.52 per hour (2026 rate) for Training.
  • Hours of work: up to a maximum of 24 hours per week including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Additional Information

  • Candidates must be available to attend a wet screening session.
  • Applicants who do not have their required qualifications when submitting their application, but are participating in a course must include the registration information in their application.

A satisfactory criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening and proof of qualifications will be required for the successful candidate.

Pre-employment testing may consist of written, practical and/or oral assessments.
