Description
Parkland County has a permanent, full-time Equipment Operator I position available with the Public Works Department. Reporting to the General Supervisor, Solid Waste Services, the Equipment Operator I is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment on transfer station sites, collection and processing of solid waste and recyclable materials, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental processes and documentation. This position will operate a variety of equipment including the rubber tire excavator with tamper, skid steer with multiple attachments, shunt truck, tool cats, lawn mowers, trucks equipped with power tailgates, and will be required to tow both enclosed and dump style trailers. The Equipment Operator I will perform manual work including the use of power tools to maintain clean and efficient transfer station operations. This position will be responsible for supporting solid waste service delivery and will be required to effectively communicate and maintain a service-orientated relationship with the public.

Requirements

The ideal candidate would have the following:

  • High-school diploma with completion or willingness to complete a Transfer Station Attendant Course.
  • Demonstrated experience safely operating and performing routine maintenance on equipment including rubber tire excavator with tamper, skid steer with multiple attachments, shunt truck, tool cats, lawn mowers, trucks equipped with power tailgates, and enclosed and dump style trailers.
  • Experience safely performing manual labour and using power tools.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain an effective, tactful service-oriented relationship with the public.
  • Experience working in a transfer station operation or solid waste handling environment is considered an asset.
  • A valid Alberta Class 5 with Air Brake Endorsement Driver’s License and ability to provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract upon hire.
Salary & Benefits

The total rewards package for this position includes:

An hourly rate of pay of $31.36 working 40 hours/week. The Transfer Stations operate Tuesday through Saturday with open hours that vary from 8:00am to 8:00pm; therefore, the successful candidate will be required to have open availability within this schedule.
